SVHC Highly Concerned Substances
SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern)
refers to substances of high concern that have been evaluated by the European
Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in accordance with the EU REACH (Registration,
Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals) regulations.
SVHC mainly has the following
characteristics:
Serious impact on human health or the
environment: SVHC is considered to have carcinogenic, teratogenic, hormonal
interference and other harmful effects, or has a high risk of accumulation and
toxicity to organisms in the environment.
Long term accumulation and difficult
degradation: SVHC has persistence in the environment and is difficult to
naturally decompose or disappear.
Widely used: SVHC may exist in various
products, including electronic and electrical equipment, plastic products,
cosmetics, textiles, etc.
According to REACH regulations, if a
substance is identified as SVHC and its content exceeds 0.1% by weight,
manufacturers and importers are required to provide notification to ECHA and
appropriate safety information.
The EU's SVHC list is dynamic, with new
candidate substances constantly being proposed, and some substances may also be
included in the official candidate list. This list provides clear
identification and management of SVHC by the public and businesses.
To ensure proper management of SVHC,
companies need to conduct in-depth supply chain investigations to understand
the SVHC substances that may be present in their products, and take necessary
measures to reduce their risks or replace them with more sustainable and safe
alternatives.
In summary, SVHC refers to chemical
substances recognized by the European Union as having extremely high levels of
concern, with potential hazards that require special attention and management.
Enterprises should actively understand whether their products contain SVHC
substances and take appropriate measures to reduce their potential risks in
accordance with relevant regulatory requirements.
