California 65

California 65, also known as California 65, is a proposal by the state of California in the United States to increase attention to toxic chemicals that can be exposed. California 65 is also known as CA65, CP65, or Prop65.

In November 1986, California voters passed the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, also known as California Proposition 65. The proposal requires companies to issue warnings when selling products to California consumers containing chemicals that may cause cancer, reproductive toxicity, or congenital defects. The regulation also requires the government to prepare a list called the Toxic Substances List, which lists chemicals sold or used in California that may cause harmful effects.

The regulation has two main purposes: first, to protect the public from the hazards of harmful chemicals, and second, to promote enterprises to evaluate and improve the products they produce or sell. Enterprises must evaluate whether the chemicals in their products pose a potential risk of carcinogenesis, reproductive toxicity, or congenital defects, and provide relevant warnings to consumers when necessary.

California Proposition 65 covers almost all consumer goods in daily life, including textiles, metals, toys, youth products, and electrical/electronic products. As long as it involves toxic and harmful chemicals such as lead and phthalates, all products sold in California need to undergo the California 65 test.
