N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosamines

On May 29, 2013, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) first released the toy safety standard EN71-12:2013 "Toy Safety - Part 12: N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosamines", which officially came into effect on June 5, 2013. The standard specifies the requirements and testing methods for the migration of N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosamines in elastic materials and finger paint pigments in toys. On June 29, 2013, EN71-12:2013 was published as the 2009/48/EC Harmonized Standard by the official EU communication 2013/C 187/09.

EN71-12:2016 Scope of nitrosamines and nitroso compounds: mainly targeting toy materials or components designed for use by children under 3 years old, consisting of "elastomers" in toys or toy components; A toy or toy component designed to fit into the mouth, consisting of an elastic body; Finger paint for children under 3 years old.

This European standard specifies the requirements and testing methods for N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosamines in the following products: elastic toys and toy components for children under 36 months of age; Toys and toy parts made from elastic systems and intended to be placed in the mouth; Finger drawing suitable for children under 36 months old. An example of a toy made from an elastic system is a balloon and gum.

Test Re testing requirements:

Elastomers inserted for use by children under 36 months;

N-nitrosamines -0.05 mg/kg

N-nitrosamine substance N-nitrosatable -1 mg/kg

Elastomers inserted to be placed in the mouth;

Finger paint children under 36 months.

N-nitrosamines -0.02 mg/kg

N-nitrosamine substance N-nitrosatable -1 mg/kg
