formamide
The EU toy safety directive on formamide
will be implemented on May 24 this year. The content of formamide in foam toy
materials shall not exceed 200mg/kg, otherwise, a 28 day release test is
required, and the release of formamide shall not exceed 20 μ G/m3.
This restriction requirement comes from the
revised version of the European Commission's Toy Safety Directive (EU)
2015/2115, published in the official gazette of the European Union on November
25, 2015. At the same time, four other restricted substances, including a mixture
of CMI and MI 3:1, methylisothiazolinone (CMI), isothiazolinone (MI), and
1,2-benzisothiazole-3-one (BIT), were added to the EU Toy Safety Directive. The
restriction requirement for 1,2-benzisothiazole-3-one (BIT) will also be
implemented from May 24th. The BIT content in water-based toy materials shall
not exceed 5 mg/kg, and the specified testing method is EN71-10:2005 or
EN71-11:2005.
