Nickel Release

Both the European Union and China have regulations on the content and release of nickel in products that come into long-term contact with human skin and products that pierce the ears or other parts of the body. The EU has passed the Nickel Control Directive 94/27/EC to unify the laws of its member states, which is used to regulate the use of nickel in products that come into direct or long-term contact with the skin. In 2004, the EU passed the EC Directive, which revised all punctured objects that pierce the human body, Starting from September 2005, EC will no longer require the total content of nickel in accessories that pierce ears or other parts of the body, but the release of nickel must not exceed 0.2ug/cm2/week.

Children's products, including metal rivets, buttons, fasteners, zippers, metal tags, and signage on toys or children's clothing; Necklaces, bracelets, watch cases, straps, metal eyeglass frames, metal casings and buttons for consumer electronics products such as headphones, MP3 players, digital cameras, etc.

Nickel release test requirements:

EU: Nickel release testing for products in direct and long-term contact with the skin (EN1811: applicable to products without electroplated coatings); Test for measuring nickel release from electroplated coated objects after catalysis and wear (EN12472: Applicable to electroplated coated products).

In 2002, China issued and implemented the "GB11887-2002 Jewelry and Precious Metals Purity Regulations and Naming Methods", which requires that products used for piercing ears or any other part of the human body, removed or retained during the healing process of the piercing wound, must have a nickel content of less than 0.05% in overall quality; The nickel release from products in long-term contact with human skin must be less than 0.5ug/cm2/week.
