Radio Equipment Directive (RED)
The Radio Equipment Directive (RED) refers
to the 2014/53/EU Directive passed by the European Parliament and Council in
2014, also known as the RED Directive.
The 2014/53/EU Directive, also known as RED
(Radio Equipment Directive), is a directive formulated by the European Union
regarding CE certification of radio equipment. This directive came into effect
on June 13, 2016 and applies to all radio equipment sold in the European market,
including but not limited to radio communication equipment, broadcasting
equipment, radar equipment, satellite equipment, etc. The purpose of the RED
directive is to ensure that radio equipment does not pose a threat to human
health, safety, and the environment during use.
The RED directive is mainly applicable to
the sales and deployment of radio equipment in the European market, including
radio communication equipment, broadcasting transmission equipment, radio
control equipment, etc. The purpose of this directive is to ensure that these
devices do not interfere with electromagnetic compatibility and spectrum
resources during use, and can ensure public health and safety.
The RED directive specifies the technical
requirements, testing methods, and compliance procedures that manufacturers
must meet. The following are some important requirements of the RED
instruction:
Electromagnetic compatibility requirements:
The equipment must not generate interference during normal operation and must
have the ability to resist interference.
Spectrum efficiency: Devices need to
effectively utilize spectrum resources to avoid spectrum waste and mutual
interference.
Safety requirements: The equipment must
comply with applicable safety standards to ensure the safety of users and the
environment.
Technical documents and compliance
statements: Manufacturers are required to prepare necessary technical documents
and provide compliance statements to prove that their equipment complies with
the requirements of the RED directive.
CE mark: Equipment that meets the
requirements of the RED directive can obtain CE certification on the European
market and be affixed with the CE mark.
Compliance with the RED directive is
mandatory for radio equipment manufacturers selling and launching in the
European market. At the same time, the RED directive also provides a basis for
relevant market regulatory agencies to conduct audits and enforcement.
In summary, the RED directive aims to
ensure that radio equipment complies with electromagnetic compatibility,
spectrum resource utilization, and safety requirements during use, in order to
protect public health and safety, and promote the smooth operation of the
European market.
